چکیده

The sum rule formalism is used to evaluate rigorous bounds for the density and current static response functions in superfluid He at zero temperature. Both lower and upper bounds are considered. The bounds are expressed in terms of ground state properties (density and current correlation functions) and of the interatomic potential. The results for the density static response significantly improve the Feynman approximation and turn out to be close to the experimental (neutron scattering) data. A quantitative prediction for the transverse current response is given. The role of one-phonon and multi-particle excitations in the longitudinal and transverse channels is discussed. Structural and dynamical properties of superfluid helium: A density-functional approach.

We present a novel density functional for liquid 4He, properly accounting for the static response function and the phonon-roton dispersion in the uniform liquid. The functional is used to study both structural and dynamical properties of superfluid helium in various geometries. The equilibrium properties of the free surface, droplets and films at zero temperature are calculated. Our predictions...

Excitations of superfluid helium in porous media

The elementary excitations of superfluid He, characterised by the phonon-roton dispersion curve, have been studied in great detail over the last forty years since the first observation of the roton in a pioneering neutron-scattering experiment in Stockholm in 1957 [1]. The interest today is turning towards the effect of disorder and confinement on these excitations, when e.g. helium is immersed...

Thermodynamics of metastable superfluid helium

Using Landau’s theory of elementary excitations together with a simple model for the interactions between excitations, we calculate the thermodynamic properties of superfluid helium-4 at pressures below the saturated vapor pressure and above the normal freezing temperature. r 2003 Elsevier Science B.V. Long-Wavelength Excitations in a Bose Gas at Zero Temperature

The long-wavelength excitations in a simple model of a dilute Bose gas at zero temperature are investigated from a purely microscopic viewpoint. The role of the interaction and the effects of the condensate are emphasized in a dielectric formulation, in which the response functions are expressed in terms of regular functions that do not involve an isolated single-interaction line nor an isolate...

Investigating the effect of pseudo-static components on bridge structures under multiple support excitations using conditional simulated records

Long-span bridges, as vital structures, play a very important role in economic development. Furthermore, the results of several earthquake-damaged bridges showed that their seismic behavior was different from that predicted under uniform excitation and in some cases the responses were more than predicted results. Therefore, the damaged bridges under non-uniform excitations were re-analyzed and ...
